KUCHING: A 28-year-old local man was arrested for allegedly attempting to molest a woman along Jalan Sultan Tengah on Monday (Jun 30).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the 34-year-old victim was riding a motorcycle with her mother-in-law when an unidentified man allegedly tried to touch her from behind around 7.15 am.
“The victim filed a police report for further action at 1.03 pm.
“Acting on the report, police arrested the suspect, believed to be connected to the incident, at around 6.15 pm the same day near the Taman Sukma area,” he said in a statement.
The suspect tested negative for drugs, but police checks revealed that he has two prior criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 354/511 of the Penal Code for attempted outraging of modesty, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine, or whipping, upon conviction.
