SIBU: A local man was seriously injured after the car he was travelling in skidded off the road along Jalan Sibu–Bintulu yesterday (May 17).

The accident occurred at around 5.35 pm near the flyover here, with the Proton Wira believed to have veered off the road before plunging into a grassy embankment by the roadside.
Firefighters from Sibu Jaya station were dispatched to the scene and found the driver and passenger already out of the car.
The 24-year-old victim suffered severe injuries but remained conscious. He was stabilised by paramedics before firefighters carried him on a stretcher into an awaiting ambulance for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the other occupant, a 20-year-old man, escaped unharmed. It was not known who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
Firefighters also conducted flushing works to clear oil spills around the crash scene to ensure the road was safe for other motorists.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the rescue operation at 5.58 pm.
