Man behind bars for housebreaking

SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a 32-year-old man to eight months’ imprisonment for committing housebreaking.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi meted out the sentence after Mohammad Saiful Abdul Rahman from Sibu Jaya pleaded guilty to the charge read and explained to him through an interpreter.

The charge stated that he had committed housebreaking by entering into a premises belonging to Sam Hwan Industries Sdn Bhd at Jalan Ding Lik Kong on August 3 at about 10:25 pm, thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

Upon conviction, an offender could face up to five years’ jail as well as liable to fine.

According to facts of the case, on August 3, at about 10:30 pm, the complainant, along with her fiance and her future mother-in-law, arrived at the ground floor of her rented room located at Jalan Ding Lik Kong.

Upon arrival, she discovered that the metal grille door had been tampered with.

After proceeding to the first floor, she found that both the main door handle and the room door had also been damaged.

Upon further inspection of the room, she observed that the room was in a state of disarray, the wardrobe door and a 32-inch Sharp television had also been damaged, the portable air conditioner had been knocked over, and a coins savings container containing about RM100 was missing.

She then saw a man (later identified as the accused), as her ex-boyfriend whose actions were captured on CCTV footage at the place. 

Immediately, she contacted the police and shortly after, the police arrived at the scene and successfully apprehended the accused.

The premises were rented by the complainant’s employer, Sam Hwan Industries Sdn Bhd.

Based on the investigation and available evidence, the accused had committed an offence punishable under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor, Haris Danial, while the accused has no legal representation.
