SIBU: Narcotics police arrested a local man for alleged involvement in peddling designer drugs worth over RM30,000 at an entertainment centre yesterday (May 19).

The 41-year-old was caught off guard during a 1.45am raid led by the Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) in collaboration with Sibu NCID at Lorong Langsat.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, said that a search resulted in the discovery of a sizable drug haul believed to be intended for distribution.

“Police discovered 54 plastic packets containing suspected ketamine, nine foil strips holding 84 Erimin 5 pills, and 13 plastic packets filled with colourful pills believed to be ecstasy.

“The total weight of the seized drugs was 228.92 grams, with an estimated street value of RM30,156,” he said.

Although the suspect had no prior criminal record, his urine test returned positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, and ketamine.

Zulkipli stated that the suspect is being remanded for six days to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Upon conviction under Section 39B, the suspect could face the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment with caning.

Meanwhile, if convicted under Section 15(1)(a), the suspect may face a fine up to RM5,000, imprisonment for a term of up to two years, or both, along with two years of police supervision.
