MIRI: A thief thought he could easily make off with a stainless-steel gate he removed from a house at Jalan Pujut 7B here on Sunday (May 31).
But the heavy gate slowed down his escape bid. He was stopped by the local Residents Committee (RC).
Miri RC chairman Malateh Mahmud said as soon a report from the houseowner was received, they wasted no time in despatching a team from the committee’s patrol unit, and detained the 25-year-old suspect at Jalan Utama Pujut 9.
The suspect didn’t manage to get far. The patrol unit caught up with him not far from the victim’s house. The gate was found by the roadside at Jalan Utama Pujut 9.
Police were later summoned to take away the suspect.
