LAWAS: A man’s attempt to flee on foot from police ended in failure when he was quickly caught and found in possession of suspected methamphetamine last Sunday (Jan 25).
The incident occurred at around 3.30pm when a police team stopped a car driven by a 37-year-old labourer near Ladang Trusan Sundar.
Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan said the suspect suddenly bolted into a nearby plantation while checks were being carried out but was swiftly apprehended by the team.
“A body search led to the discovery of a plastic packet containing two smaller packets of crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 25g.
“Also seized were five empty straws and 47 empty plastic packets.”
Urine screening test found that the suspect, who has no prior criminal record, tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation on the same day, DSP Liong said another labourer, aged 40, was arrested at an unnumbered house along Jalan Lawas Damit for alleged involvement in drug abuse.
“Inspections found nothing illegal; however, a urine test result showed the suspect positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks also found that the suspect has no prior criminal record.”
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
