DEBAK: The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested a local man and foiled a subsidised fuel misappropriation attempt worth over RM200,000 last week.

Sarawak GOF Brigade deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai said the operation, codenamed ‘Op Taring Bravo’, was carried out by the GOF 23rd Battalion’s Intelligence branch at 8.15 am on May 8.

The team intercepted a lorry believed to be transporting subsidised petrol, diesel, and several liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders without valid ownership permits.

“A 40-year-old man was arrested after the team discovered 1,260 litres of petrol, 750 litres of diesel, and 20 LPG cylinders in the lorry’s cargo.

“The total seizure value is estimated at RM211,545.50, according to market value,” he said.

Rosdi said the suspect and the seized items were handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sri Aman branch, the Ministry of Utilities Kuching branch, and the Betong Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, Section 20(1)(a) of the Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016, and Section 15(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
