KUCHING: An odd job worker doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire in what is believed to be a suicide attempt outside their house at Tabuan Melayu near here on Monday night.

The man aged 48 was living with his teenage son while his daughter who had married moved out of their house.
At about 10 pm, his son who was watching television heard his father shouted in pain outside their house and saw him on fire.

His father had used petrol from a grass cutter to douse himself.

The son then tried to put out the fire and also called their neighbours for help.

The son said he did not know why his father set himself on fire because earlier on they had watched television together before his father walked out. The son thought that his father has gone out to smoke.

An ambulance later came and took the man to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

The man is believed to be in critical condition.
