KUCHING: A man in his 30s was detained after allegedly using a fake vehicle registration number to avoid having his car repossessed by the bank.
District Police said the Sarawak Traffic Enforcement and Investigation personnel detected the vehicle during a patrol along Jalan Tun Jugah at about 10:50 am on December 11.
“Checks revealed the registration number did not exist in the MyJPJ system, and further inspection suggested the plate had been deliberately altered.
“The driver was taken to the Kuching Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for further action,” it said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 108(e) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a fine of RM5,000 to RM20,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
Police reminded road users not to use fake registration numbers or violate traffic laws, stressing that offenders will face firm action.
