LUBOK ANTU: A local man has been detained to assist police investigations into a suspected firearm possession case reported on October 27.
District Police Chief, DSP Pricha Azin, said the suspect, who is in in his early 50s, was taken into custody by a task force team at Lubok Subong during an integrated crime prevention operation on Saturday.
The suspect has been remanded for four days at Lubok Antu Police Station’s lock-up to facilitate further investigation.
In light of this, Pricha reminded the public not to purchase, possess, or store any type of firearm without valid authorisation – including homemade or imitation guns – as stern action will be taken under the Arms Act 1960.
The integrated operation involved a total of 27 officers and personnel, during which 72 vehicles and 81 individuals were inspected.
Five summonses were also issued to motorists for various traffic offences.
Pricha encouraged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police and report any crime-related information to help maintain safety and peace in the district.
