SIBU: A 21-year-old local man drowned while swimming at a public pool in Jalan Delta on Saturday night (Jul 19).
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said they received a report regarding the incident at around 8 pm from the victim’s brother, who discovered the man unresponsive in the water.
“Eyewitnesses at the scene immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim after pulling him out of the pool.
“He was later rushed to Sibu Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later,” he said.
Physical examination found no signs of injury on the body and no foul play has been detected at this stage of the investigation.
Zulkipli urged the public not to speculate on the incident to respect the privacy of the victim’s family.
Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to come forward and assist police with the case.
