SIBU: A local man was killed on the spot after the car he was driving crashed near Aman Roundabout here in the early hours today (July 26).
The victim has been identified as Mackson Manggi Kassim, 28.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sibu central station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 3.33 am.
Mackson was left trapped inside the wreckage of a Perodua Myvi and was extricated using specialised rescue equipment.
The victim was later handed over to paramedics, who confirmed his death at the scene. His body was handed over to the police for further action.
Meanwhile, his passengers, a 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, managed to escape from the vehicle before rescuers arrived.
The woman was reported to be unharmed, while the man suffered minor injuries.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 4.30 am.
