BINTULU: A local man was killed in an early morning fire that destroyed a single-storey house along Jalan Sibiew yesterday (Jun 1).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Bintulu station were deployed to the scene near SJK Siong Boon following an emergency call at 2.32 am.
Upon arrival, they found the house—measuring 11 by 15 square feet—beyond saving and performed the extinguishing deed using water from a nearby fire hydrant.
One of the occupants, identified as Wong Jun Din, was found unconscious with burns across his body after reportedly being trapped during the fire.
He was pulled out of the house by other occupants but was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was later handed over to the police for further action.
Meanwhile, three other occupants in the same house managed to escape the fire unharmed.
Firefighters also carried out overhaul works to prevent any risk of reignition before concluding the operation.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
