Man dies in Temenggong Haji Gobil house fire

KUCHING: A 48-year-old man died after being found unconscious inside a room during a house fire at Taman Temenggong Datuk Abang Haji Gobil here today.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Fardillah Amin, was found during a post-fire inspection after firefighters brought the blaze under control at about 10:24 am.

The Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said Fardillah was found unconscious inside a room of the two-storey semi-permanent house.

The Malaysian Health Ministry (KKM) medical team later confirmed him dead at the scene, with the victim believed to have died from smoke inhalation or suffocation.

His body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

According to BOMBA, the fire involved the kitchen area of the 30-by-50 sq. ft house, with damage estimated at about 30 per cent.

BOMBA received the distress call at 10:08 am and arrived at the scene two minutes later.

Firefighters used one hose reel and one delivery hose to extinguish the fire, which was completely put out by 10:24 am.

The operations ended at 11:57 am after firefighters ensured there were no remaining sources of fire and the scene was safe.
