KOTA SAMARAHAN: A local man is facing the death penalty or life imprisonment after his arrest in Taman Samarindah led to the seizure of more than 5kg of suspected cannabis.
The 22-year-old was arrested by the Kota Samarahan District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) during the operation yesterday (July 12).
Police said a search of the suspect led to the seizure of approximately 5.46kg of suspected cannabis, with an estimated street value of RM16,367.97.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping if the death penalty is not imposed, upon conviction.
Police said the successful operation reflects their continued commitment to curbing drug trafficking and protecting the safety and well-being of the public.
Members of the public are urged to continue providing information on drug abuse and trafficking activities, as community cooperation is vital in the fight against drug-related crime.
