LUNDU: A man is feared to have drowned after he reportedly fell into the Batang Kayan river near Kampung Sileng this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the 74-year-old victim had gone out alone on a boat to fish.
However, his disappearance was discovered when villagers passing by noticed his boat circling and drifting toward the riverbank with no one on board.
Suspecting that the victim may have fallen into the river, his family lodged a report at the Lundu district police headquarters (IPD) to request assistance.
Firefighters from the Lundu station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 11.20am.
At the time of writing, the search and rescue (SAR) operation is ongoing and the victim remains unaccounted for.
