Man feared drowned at Pantai Belawai

TANJUNG MANIS: A 48-year-old man is feared drowned after he was reported to have fallen into the sea at Pantai Belawai on Wednesday evening.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a call at 5.03pm and arrived at the scene at 5.55pm, about 21km from the Tanjung Manis fire station.

The victim, identified as Sabarudin bin Awang Kamarudin, is believed to have been at the coastal area when he fell into the water.

Witnesses said he was seen struggling and waving for help before disappearing beneath the surface.

Initial search efforts were carried out using surface water searching techniques with assistance from other agencies and villagers.

The operation resumed at 7am on Thursday for the second day. As of press time, the victim has yet to be found.
