JULAU: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched for a man feared drowned in Sungai Kanowit near Nanga Sebuloh here.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as Geoffrey Senah, 39, had gone fishing using a boat at about 7 am on Wednesday (Mar 11).
“However, he failed to return home, prompting villagers to search the area. The victim’s boat was later found drifting in the river with his belongings still inside, except for the fishing net he had been using,” said a Bomba spokesperson.
A SAR team from the Bintangor fire station arrived at Rumah Gundi at about 3.07 pm today after receiving information from the police.
The search operation is being carried out with assistance from police, the Civil Defence Force (APM), RELA personnel and villagers, covering a radius of about one kilometre from the last known location.
At press time, the victim had yet to be found.
