Man feared missing off Pulau Lakei

KUCHING: A man has gone missing and is believed to have fallen overboard while fishing at Batu Susur, Pulau Lakei here.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (Bomba) Operations Centre said the 55-year-old man had gone to Pulau Lakei with two friends for a fishing trip at around 4:00 pm on Saturday.

“At around 11:00 pm last night, the three of them went to sleep, and when they woke up at approximately 3:40 am today, his friends realised that the victim was no longer in the boat,” it said in a statement.

The victim’s friends attempted to search for him in the vicinity of Pulau Lakei but were unable to locate him.

Following this, the friend lodged a police report, and upon receiving the information at around 12:27 pm today, a team from the fire and rescue station was immediately deployed to carry out a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
