KUCHING: A man was fined RM1,500 or jailed for two months by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for assaulting a woman during a dispute.
Khairrudin Othman, 39, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt to a 31-year-old woman.
The offence occurred at a house in Demak Laut at about 9 pm on October 2, 2025.
If convicted, the charge carries a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to court facts, the incident began when the complainant slapped Khairrudin’s 16-year-old son, who had come to the house to pick up his younger sister.
The teenager reportedly spoke disrespectfully to the complainant while inquiring about his sister.
After learning about the slap, Khairrudin rushed to the complainant’s house, where a quarrel ensued. During the altercation, Khairrudin kicked the complainant in the chest, leading to a brief struggle.
The complainant sustained injuries to her chest and shoulder. A police report was lodged and investigations confirmed that the assault was intentional.
The prosecution was handled by Inspector Nurshafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while Khairrudin was unrepresented in court.
