KUCHING: A 67-year-old man was fined RM1,500, in default of four months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court here today for assaulting a 26-year-old woman at a parking lot in Batu 10, Padawan, last month.
Chung Kim Fatt pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.
The offence, which falls under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred at about 10 pm on July 24 in front of a parking lot near a hypermarket in Mile 10, Padawan.
The victim was in a Perodua Viva with her male friend when the accused approached her and accused her of taking his car.
Chung then punched the victim several times in the face and kicked her in the back.
The assault left the woman with a bump on her forehead, cuts and bruising on her lips and below her eye, as well as pain in her head.
The victim subsequently lodged a police report seeking further action.
Police investigations found that the accused had approached the victim while she was in the vehicle and assaulted her after accusing her of taking his car.
The accused was unrepresented, while the prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Marvin Kaliyani.
