KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local man RM2,000 in default four months in prison for threatening to harm his younger brother with a knife during an argument at their home in Petra Jaya last week.
The incident reportedly occurred after the 45-year-old ate the chicken that his brother had prepared to take to work.
Mohamad Dean, who has a prior record involving drug abuse, pleaded guilty before Senior Assistant Registrar Nuraini Ahmad to the charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine, or both.
Based on the case facts, an argument escalated at around 5pm on Dec 19 when Dean was scolded by his brother for eating the food intended for work.
In anger, he reportedly grabbed a knife and threatened his sibling while uttering criminal threats.
Fearing for his safety, the younger brother filed a police report the same day, leading to Dean’s arrest.
Investigations found that Dean intentionally issued threats while brandishing the knife at the victim.
The prosecution was handled by Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while Dean was unrepresented by counsel.
