Man fined RM2,000 for beating wife

KUCHING: A 50-year-old man was fined RM2,000 in default four months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for beating his wife with a glass lamp and a flashlight. 

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi meted out the sentence on Supandi Yusran after he pleaded guilty under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code.

It provides for imprisonment of up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

The accused reportedly beat his 39-year-old wife at their residence in Kampung Surek Stapok around 7pm on Dec 11, 2021.

The victim was beaten by the accused using a glass lamp and a flashlight causing injuries to her head.

The incident occurred after the victim refused to give money to her husband to buy motorcycle spare parts.
