KUCHING: A man was fined RM3,000, in default 10 months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court here after he pleaded guilty to threatening a supermarket worker with a sickle after his morning greeting went unanswered.
The accused, Wan Mazali, 43, entered his guilty plea after the charge was read before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
According to the charge, Wan Mazali intentionally committed criminal intimidation by pointing a sickle at an 18-year-old man at a well-known supermarket in Stutong at about 9.30 am on Dec 8.
Based on the facts of the case, the complainant was opening the supermarket at the time when he noticed the accused waving at him.
However, the complainant ignored the gesture and continued with his duties, which included opening the supermarket entrance and storing a metal pole.
The accused then approached and called out to the complainant but the latter continued locking the padlock before entering the supermarket to resume his work.
Shortly after, the accused returned carrying a sickle, slammed it onto the counter and pointed it at the complainant.
The accused questioned the complainant about what he had allegedly said to him, but the complainant explained that he had not said anything after which the accused left the scene.
Investigations revealed that the accused was angered when his morning greeting was not returned by the complainant.
Fearing for his safety, the complainant lodged a police report, which led to the accused’s arrest on Dec 22.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff, while the accused was unrepresented.
