KUCHING: A man was fined RM3,500 in default 14 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today for damaging property at his mother’s house, causing losses of RM300, on Tuesday.
Mahathir Norseman, 29, pleaded guilty to a charge read before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for intentionally committing mischief by damaging the glass panels and door of a house belonging to his 56-year-old mother, resulting in losses amounting to RM300.
The offence was committed at their residence along Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here at about 11.30 am.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who is the accused’s elder brother, received a call from their mother informing him that the accused had run amok and damaged the house’s glass panels and door.
The incident caused the mother to suffer losses totalling RM300. A police report was subsequently lodged, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day.
Investigations revealed that the accused was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
