KUCHING: A 29-year-old man was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday (Dec 8) for involvement in methamphetamine abuse.

Krister Patrick Tini pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.

He was sentenced under Section 15 of the same Act for ingesting illegal drugs, namely methamphetamine and amphetamine.

According to court records, Krister tested positive for drugs when he was detained at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at Kuching District Police Headquarters around 2.30pm on Oct 9.

A conviction under this section carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to two years’ imprisonment.

The court also ordered Krister to undergo supervision by the National Anti-Drugs Agency for two years upon completing his prison term.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly urged the court to impose a heavy sentence as a deterrent.

Case facts presented in court stated that police had arrested Krister on suspicion of drug abuse.

An initial urine screening returned positive, and subsequent laboratory tests from the Pathology Department of Sarawak General Hospital confirmed the presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine.
