KUCHING: A local man will be spending time in prison after he was convicted of punching and criminally threatening his aunty in December last year.

Haniffah Abdullah, 26, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday (Jan 27) after he pleaded guilty to two charges.

On the first charge, the accused was sentenced to seven months’ jail. He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the same code for deliberately causing hurt to his 65-year-old aunty.

He will spend another five months in jail on the second charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminally threatening to harm the woman.

Both the offences were committed at their home in Kampung Telega Air near here at 9.15 am on Dec 21, 2021.

The court was told that Haniffah threatened to harm his aunty and punched her in the face, causing her injuries, after he was told off for closing the kitchen door.
