KOTA SAMARAHAN: A 47-year-old man was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here for slapping an 11-year-old boy last week.

Magistrate Shafiza Datuk Abdul Razak Tready handed down the sentence after Zaiden Amran pleaded guilty of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The offence carries a penalty of up to one year’s imprisonment and a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred in Kampung Asajaya Ulu at 9.30pm on Mar 11, when Zaiden confronted the victim, over allegations that the boy had punctured his van tyre.

However, the victim denied the accusation, a claim that was supported by other witnesses.

The court heard that the accused proceeded to slap the victim on the left cheek three times and even attempted to tie the boy’s hands and legs in an effort to force him to reveal the person responsible for the alleged act.

Medical examination later confirmed that the victim sustained bruising on his left cheek, consistent with an assault.

He also sought follow-up treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital.

The incident came to light after the victim’s younger sibling informed their father, who subsequently lodged a police report.

Investigations further revealed that the accused had also lodged a police report and admitted to slapping the victim three times.

The assault was witnessed by one of the victim’s friends.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Fadzri Azham Zainudin, while the accused was represented by Arthur Liang Dawat.
