KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to eight months in prison for possessing 0.13g of methamphetamine.
Hidayat, 25, from Landeh, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
If convicted, the accused can face a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to five years.
He committed the offence in a house at Kampung Landeh, Jalan Landeh around 10pm on April 2.
According to the facts of the case, the police arrested Ahmad as he was believed to be involved in drug activities.
Inspections led to the discovery of three plastic packets containing a crystalline substance inside a desk drawer in the workshop room of the house.
The seized item was taken to the Chemistry Department for analysis, and reports confirmed that the item was methamphetamine weighing 0.13g.
ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted the case while Ahmad was unrepresented by legal counsel.
