KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to one year in prison for running amok and damaging property at his mother’s house in Jalan Sultan Tengah here earlier this year.
Mohammad Nor Nasriq Ismail, 36, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
He was accused of damaging the back door and ceiling of the house around 1.20pm on Jan 10, resulting in losses amounting to RM1,984.
Based on the case facts, Nasriq’s brother discovered a hole in the back door, believed to have been pierced with a sharp object.
He was informed that Nasriq had caused the damage in an attempt to force his way into the house.
A police report was filed and he was arrested after several attempts to persuade him to come down from the roof of the house.
Investigations revealed that Nasriq did not live with his mother and had shown up at the house in an aggressive manner.
His 60-year-old mother refused to let him in as she was afraid, especially after hearing him screaming outside. She also suspected that he was under the influence of drugs.
ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted the case while Nasriq was unrepresented by counsel.
