SIBU: A 46-yeat-old man was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and one stroke of whipping by the Magistrates’ Court here for housebreaking and theft.
Sigi Maling from Nanga Tada, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Oon Kork Chern.
The charge against him stated that he had between July 9 and 10, at about 10 am, at a shop along Jalan Wong King Huo, committed housebreaking and theft of one unit of Epson LCD projector and two units of JBL brand speakers belonging to Sii Siew Siu, an offence punishable under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
The offence provides for an imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than 14 years and with whipping as well as liable to a fine, upon conviction.
Sigi was arrested on July 16 and subsequently led police to a shop along Market Road where he had sold the stolen items.
The case was prosecuted by ASP Siti Mariyah Dahari while the accused was unrepresented.
