Man goes missing after bathing in river

BINTANGOR: A local man has been reported missing after bathing in a river near his longhouse at Kampung Nanga Semah.

The victim has been identified as Raya Adam, 45, from Rumah Ibok, Nanga Semah.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Bintangor station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 5.17 pm.

Raya, along with several family members from the same longhouse, had gone to a nearby paddy field to pray earlier in the morning.

Following prayers, Raya went to the river to bathe around 8 am. About an hour later, his wife went to the river to check on him but could not locate her husband.

Local folk organised a search party to find the victim, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched, and at the time of writing, the victim has yet to be found.
