SIBU: A 34-year-old man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined RM5,000, in default, six months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today (May 28) for committing two criminal charges.
When the charges were read and explained to Julian Martin from Song, through an interpreter, he understood and the consequences of entering his plea of guilty.
Magistrate Romario Jonoi convicted him of the offences charged and sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment for the first charge and a fine of RM5,000, in default, six months’ jail for the second charge.
The first charge referred to Julian stated that he had threatened to cause death to his parents, with the intention of causing alarm to them, thereby committing a crime and punishable under the second limb of Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to seven years or fine or both, upon conviction.
The second charge against him stated that he was found to have committed mischief by damaging a television set and washing machine, causing wrongful loss, thereby committing an offense under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which may extend up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine or both.
Both incidents took place in a rented house on Long Bridge Road on Mar 30 at about 1.30 pm.
According to the facts of the case, on Mar 30 at about 1.30 pm, at a rented house on Jalan Long Bridge, the accused went on a rampage, damaging items in the house such as a television set and washing machine, causing an estimated property loss of RM1,000.
At the same time, he also threatened to kill his parents because he was reprimanded for selling his mother’s mobile phone without permission.
Consequently, the accused’s mother lodged a police report for further action.
Acting on information received on May 18 at about 5.55 pm, a team of police led by Insp Sudiman Sakout from the Criminal Investigation Division, Sibu District Police Headquarters, arrested the accused at Jalan Chamber.
A police investigation found that the accused had made criminal threats by issuing threatening words to kill both his mother and father by saying, ‘I will kill you all later’.
The investigation also found that the accused had committed damage to a television set and washing machine owned by his mother.
The case was prosecuted by Insp. Kumareswaran Murugan, while the accused who was unrepresented, had to undergo another six months in jail as he failed to pay the fine.
