BAU: A local man’s bid to make a quick RM90 by stealing electrical cables and aluminium items from a disused quarry came to an end when police tracked him down and arrested him yesterday (Jul 1).

The 25-year-old was detained by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in front of an unnumbered house in Kampung Bidi, Krokong, at around 11.25am following intelligence-led investigations.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspect is believed to have broken into an abandoned quarry in Krokong.

“Investigations found that the suspect allegedly entered the quarry through the rear of the fenced compound before cutting and stealing two rolls of electrical cable extensions and several aluminium cans.

“He later sold the stolen items to a scrap metal dealer in Tasik Biru for just RM90,” he said.

Acting on information obtained from the suspect, police carried out a follow-up operation in Kampung Tasik Biru later the same day, where they seized a duplicate copy of a sales receipt believed to be linked to the disposal of the stolen items.

Background checks found that the suspect has several prior records involving drug-related offences.

Mohd Haide said the suspect has been remanded to assist investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.

He advised the public to ensure their premises, particularly abandoned or rarely visited properties, are properly secured as such locations are often targeted by criminals.
