Man held for alleged drink-driving in ‘Ops Mabuk’

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after he was stopped during a police operation along Jalan Samarahan-Kuching in the early hours today (July 15).

The 23-year-old was among 130 individuals screened during ‘Ops Mabuk’, which was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division from 12.01am to 3am.

An initial breathalyser test using the SD2+ device indicated that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is an offence under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine up to RM30,000, and a two-year driving licence suspension, upon conviction.

Kota Samarahan police said a total of 120 vehicles were inspected throughout the operation.

In addition to the arrest, they also issued 25 summonses for various traffic offences.

Enforcement against drink-driving would continue to be intensified to deter offenders and safeguard the safety of all road users.
