BAU: A local man was arrested for selling illegal lottery tickets at the five-footway of a commercial centre building during the Ops Dadu raid on Wednesday.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said in a statement today that the 23-year-old man from Samarahan was arrested by a team from Bau District Criminal Investigation Division (CID) when a senior police officer alerted them at 12pm.

“He was conducting a public lottery sale without a licence at the shop lot building.

“Police also seized a white paper with written numbers as bets, a handphone and some cash from the gambling activities,” he said.

He also added that the man had no previous criminal record and was taken to Bau police station for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Open House Gambling Act 1953.

If convicted, the suspect can be fined not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM200,000 or jailed up to five years.
