MIRI: Police picked up a 37-year-old local man suspected of involvement in drug distribution following a hotel raid on Sunday afternoon.

Officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Miri detained the suspect at about 2pm after conducting checks at a hotel in the Miri district.

A search of the premises led to the discovery of six transparent plastic packets of varying sizes containing crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine. The drugs weighed approximately 5.20 grammes and are estimated to be worth RM600.

The suspect was taken to the Narcotics Division office at IPD Miri to help with investigations. Police checks showed he has no prior criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Police said statements from witnesses would be recorded and a remand application would be made to facilitate investigations.
