SARATOK: A 48-year-old man was arrested over the theft of oil palm fruits from a SALCRA plantation in Lubuk Nitik.

Police seized a Mitsubishi Triton and several related items.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the suspect was detained on Feb 10 along Jalan Orang Kaya Temenggong following investigations into a report lodged on Jan 5.

“The complainant, a SALCRA auxiliary policeman, spotted a black Triton carrying oil palm fruits believed to belong to the plantation during a patrol.

“The vehicle sped off when approached,” he said.

Losses were estimated at about 400kg of fruits worth over RM300.

Police seized the Triton, a spike rod, two spear blades, two bunches of oil palm fruits and other items.

Mathew said the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine and admitted stealing the fruits to fund his drug habit. An accomplice is still being traced.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
