BINTANGOR: Narcotics police have arrested a local man for allegedly possessing suspected methamphetamine during a targeted drug operation along Jalan Chung San here, yesterday (Jan 5).
The 53-year-old suspect was detained for inspections when a police task force raided a house under ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ at around 11.30 am.
Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said officers discovered a stash hidden in plain sight — 10 plastic packets and 44 straw tubes of various sizes, all containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine.
“The drugs were found inside a white L.A. Ice cigarette box on a table in the living room.
“Following that, the suspect and drugs were taken to Meradong Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office, where urine screening tests came back positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.
Background checks also found that the man has no prior criminal or drug-related record.
Tansli stated that the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952
If convicted, it carries a jail term of up to five years and up to nine lashes of caning.
He assured that police will not compromise in the fight against drugs and urged the public to report drug-related activities to Bintangor police station at 084-693222.
