SRI AMAN: Ambulances are indispensable to the medical and services all over the world, and it is an irrefutable fact that they have helped saved countless lives.

In fact, it is extremely hard to imagine a healthcare system anywhere operating without ambulances.

So it is heart-wrenching when in a cruel twist of fate, an elderly pedestrian was hit by an ambulance at Kilometre 52, Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching, last Sunday (Mar 4).

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu stated that the incident happened around 8.45pm near Rapak Tepus A area.

Investigations found that prior to the collision, the Pantu health clinic ambulance was travelling to Lachau to attend to a road accident victim.

“Instead, the ambulance hit Juan Mudin, 69, as he was crossing the road. He was severely injured and was pronounced dead en route to Sri Aman Hospital,” Alexson said, adding that the ambulance staff members were not injured.

The case is investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
