BINTULU: A local man who allegedly posed as a police officer to rob and rape a woman at Similajau Forest Reserve last week, has been arrested after a six-day manhunt.
The suspect, in his early 50s, is believed to have lured the victim on Oct 29 by offering financial assistance before taking her to a secluded area, where he allegedly robbed her of her phone and sexually assaulted her.
Bintulu police said the suspect’s impersonation of a law enforcement officer was part of his ploy to deceive the victim.
Following intensive tracking between Oct 30 and Nov 4, the Bintulu Criminal Investigation Division (CID) managed to locate and arrest the suspect in Sibu at around 2.30 pm yesterday (Nov 4).
The case is being investigated under Sections 392, 376, and 170 of the Penal Code for robbery, rape, and impersonating a civil servant.
Bintulu police urged the public to remain vigilant and to always verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a government or enforcement officer before placing their trust.
