Man injured after two-vehicle crash at Lambir Prison junction

MIRI : A 40-year-old man was injured after a collision involving two vehicles at the Lambir Prison junction in Miri on Saturday morning (March 7).

The incident occurred at about 8.44 am when emergency services received a distress call reporting a road accident at the busy intersection along Jalan Miri-Lambir.

Firefighters from the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene, located about 16 kilometres from the station.

The team arrived at 8.59 am and found that the crash involved a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck and a Proton Saga Iswara.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre, the driver of the Proton Saga Iswara was trapped inside the vehicle when rescuers reached the scene.

Firefighters immediately began rescue operations using specialised road traffic accident equipment to extricate the victim from the wreckage.

The injured man, identified as Nazaimie Samsudin, also known as Sulaini, sustained injuries to his head and right leg.

Members of the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit provided initial treatment at the scene before handing him over to Health Ministry personnel for further medical care.

The driver of the Toyota Hilux was reported to be unhurt.

Once rescue operations were completed and the area was declared safe, firefighters cleared the scene and returned to the station.

The operations were brought under control at 9.10 am and concluded shortly after at 9.14 am.

A total of six firefighters were involved in the response, deploying one fire rescue tender and an EMRS vehicle.

Police and Health Ministry personnel were also present to assist at the scene and manage the aftermath of the accident.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
