KOTA SAMARAHAN: A Sabahan man fractured both his heels after attempting to evade arrest by jumping from a rental room during a drug-related raid today (Apr 8).
The operation took place around 10.30 am at the third floor of a shoplot building in Desa Ilmu, following intelligence regarding ongoing drug abuse activities at the location.
Kota Samarahan police chief Supt Damataries Lautin said when the team arrived and knocked on the door several times, no one responded.
“The team then heard a loud sound, followed by someone shouting that someone had jumped.
“Acting on the alert, the team rushed to the ground level of the building and found the 32-year-old suspect sitting near a drain outside the shoplot.
“The suspect had sustained injuries, including wounds to his ankles, knees, and cuts on his left palm, likely from the fall when he jumped in an attempt to avoid arrest. A body search found no illegal items on him,” he said in a statement.
Damataries confirmed that the suspect tested positive for both amphetamine and methamphetamine, and was subsequently arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse.
The suspect was later taken to the Kota Samarahan Health Clinic, where a doctor confirmed that he had fractured both heels. He will be referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
“Initial interrogations revealed that the suspect had been abusing drugs since early 2023 and had been receiving supplies from an unknown individual via phone calls.
“He was getting his drugs via left-right delivery around Kampung Tanjong Bundong,” he said.
Efforts are underway to identify, track down and arrest the drug supplier.
