KUCHING: A 32-year-old man was sentenced to 20 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today (Jan 22) for breaking into a beauty centre and stealing two mobile phones, nail beauty tools, and RM100 in cash.
Mohad Rizal Zuman pleaded guilty to a charge read out by an interpreter before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.
He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and may also include a fine or whipping upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, the female shop owner discovered that the padlock to her shop on Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli was missing and the wooden door was open at around 8.45 am on January 17
Upon entering, she found the glass magnet door ajar, and several items had been stolen.
A police report was lodged, and the accused was arrested later the same day at 5.15 pm along Jalan Foo Chow.
CCTV footage showed the accused committing the break-in and theft.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan. The accused was unrepresented.
