Man jailed 20 months for house break-in, stealing electrical wires

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today (Feb 14) sentenced a local man to 20 months’ imprisonment for breaking into a house with the intent to steal seven rolls of electrical wire.

Jackson, 31, from Kampung Sg Nibong, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

According to the charge, he and an accomplice, who remains at large, committed the offence at a house on Jalan Pisang around 2.30 pm on February 10.

Based on the case facts, the complainant, who resides at the house, saw two unidentified men climbing over the perimeter fence.

The complainant immediately contacted the police, leading to the accused’s arrest within 10 minutes by the Police Patrol Unit, while his accomplice managed to escape.

Among the seized items were seven rolls of electrical wire, a knife, a sling bag, and a sack.

Investigations revealed that the accused had stolen seven rolls of wire, causing a loss of RM1,000.

In the same court, the accused was also sentenced to an additional five months’ imprisonment for drug-related offences involving amphetamine and methamphetamine.

For this offence, he was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and sentenced under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

Magistrate Mason also ordered the accused to be placed under police supervision for two years upon completing his prison term.
