Man jailed 7 months for possessing meth

KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court sentenced an unemployed man to seven months in prison for possessing 0.23g of methamphetamine.

Remplesskin Kitih, 30, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.

If convicted, it carries a penalty of up to RM100,000 fine or up to five years in prison.

Remplesskin is alleged to possess the prohibited substance in a car by the roadside in Kampung Sungai Riset, at around 9 am on June 11.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the police arrested a man in a car as he was believed to be involved in drug abuse activities.

Inspections led to the finding of a plastic packet containing crystalline substance suspected to be syabu, which was kept in a cigarette box and a drug device placed in the front seat.

The drugs were sent to the Chemistry Department and report confirmed that the goods were methamphetamine drugs weighing 0.23g.

Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case while Remplesskin was unrepresented by a counsel.
