Man jailed for stealing Honda rims, drug abuse

KUCHING: A drug addict was sentenced to one year and two months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here for stealing two pairs of Honda car rims.

Harryson Jhango, 28, from Kampung Kandis Baru, pleaded guilty to a charge read before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.

He and another accomplice were charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code along with Section 34 of the same law.

They were accused of stealing a pair of Honda Civic rims belonging to a 35-year-old man at an apartment in Batu Kawa at 4.59pm on Jan 8.

On the day of the incident, the complainant, a security guard, spotted the two men stealing the car rims and loading them into a Proton Saga car.

The defendant and his accomplice were subsequently apprehended, and a police report was filed against them.

The police confiscated items from them, including a Proton Saga car, a set of keys, and the stolen car rims.

Investigations revealed that they had stolen the rims belonging to the male victim aged 35.

Meanwhile, the defendant’s accomplice, Chai Wee Tong, 22, pleaded not guilty to the same charges against the defendant.

The court has set a new mention date for the case management on March 2.

Chai was released on a cash bail of RM3,000 with a local surety while awaiting the next mention.

In the same court, Harryson also faced a six-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to drug abuse activities.

He was charged under Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and could be punished under Section 15 (1) of the same Act.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan while the defendant was unrepresented by legal counsel.
