KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to 12 months in jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today (Aug 17) for threatening to burn down his mother’s house in Bandar Baru Samariang in April.
According to the facts of the case, Muhd Nurhidayatul Amjad, 29, became angry and threatened to burn down the house at about 7.50 am on Apr 27.
Fearing for her safety, his mother lodged a police report over the threat.
Muhd Nurhidayatul was arrested at about 1.15 pm the following day.
Investigations found that the incident stemmed from an argument between the mother and son.
His mother had told him to clean up food scraps left on the table after eating and to take a shower after returning home from work.
The argument continued until Muhd Nurhidayatul threatened to burn down the house.
A preliminary urine test also found him positive for methamphetamine.
He also had four previous criminal records for various offences.
During proceedings today, Muhd Nurhidayatul pleaded guilty to one charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali sentenced him to 12 months in jail, effective from the date of his arrest on April 28.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, while Muhd Nurhidayatul was unrepresented.
