KUCHING: A man was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here after pleading guilty to possessing illegal drugs, namely 2.26 grammes of cannabis and 0.78 grammes of methamphetamine.
Radzman, 25, admitted to two charges read before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan.
For the first charge, he was convicted under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possessing 2.26 grammes of cannabis.
For the second charge, he was convicted under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, for possessing 0.78 grammes of methamphetamine.
He committed both offences by the roadside near a coffee shop in Tabuan Dayak at around 11am on Dec 4, 2024.
According to the case facts, officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department of the Kuching District Police Headquarters apprehended the accused in Tabuan Dayak after noticing his suspicious behavior.
A physical inspection led to the discovery of four small transparent plastic packets containing dried leaves and another small plastic packet with crystal-like substances.
Chemical analysis later confirmed the substances as 2.26 grammes of cannabis and 0.78 grammes of methamphetamine.
The prosecution was led by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel.
