KUCHING: A local man was sentenced to six months’ jail for possessing a stolen smartphone which had been looted during a break-in at a perfume factory last month.
Qamarul, 29, pleaded guilty to the charge read before Senior Assistant Registrar Abdurrahman Abrar Jarni in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Nov 24).
He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code for possessing a stolen Redmi Note 13 smartphone belonging to a 29-year-old woman.
The offence allegedly took place at an unnumbered house in Tabuan Dani at around 1.10pm on Oct 18.
Accordingto case facts, the complainant, a factory supervisor, discovered that the factory had been broken into through a rear glass window at around 8.20 am on Oct 10.
Further inspection found several missing items, including RM2,877.35 in cash and two smartphones.
A police report was lodged, which led to Qamarul’s arrest on Oct 18. Investigations confirmed that he had broken into the factory and stolen several items, including the complainant’s phone.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Asmawi Nur Haqim Mokhtar while Qamarul appeared without legal representation.
